Battle of The Fishing Sunglasses: Maui Jim vs Costa (Who Makes The Best?)

Are you having a difficult time deciding between Maui Jim vs Costa sunglasses? You can’t go wrong with either of these options if you want a new pair of sunglasses for fishing.

The answer to which brand is better varies depending on who you ask.

Costa is better than Maui Jim for me! When I saw the Costa Tuna Alleys on Amazon, I was amazed at how inexpensive they were.

However, it’s not because I believe their lenses are clearer. No, I’m not even going to bother comparing the lenses’ clarity (or lack thereof). Both Costa and Maui Jim sunglasses have equally clear lenses, which I attribute to my personal preference for Costa over Maui Jim.

I’ll try to address this issue from my personal experience, but rather with concrete proof. Specifically, I’m interested in learning about the company’s warranties, return policies, pricing, and inventory. It will compare the number of good Amazon reviews.

Maui Jim vs Costa

“Different strokes for different people” is a well-known expression. I’d characterize the conflict between Maui Jim and Costa Del Mar as who manufactures the greatest sunglasses.

My preference for Costa sunglasses may be summarized this way:

It’s not that Maui Jim’s sunglasses are subpar. It’s Costa was the first pair of high-end sunglasses I had purchased. They are comfortable for my large head and have never failed me.

Whatever your favorite sunglasses brand, some real evidence will help you make up your mind.

How do their lenses compare?

Each company has its own jargon for describing why its lenses are superior to the competition. For example, Maui Jim says its lenses include three rare earth elements that enhance color and clarity.

Five hundred eighty sunglass lenses by Costa, on the other hand, are a big hit with customers!

Costa says about themselves: “These multilayered thin film coatings, applied by a high-tech beam ion deposition method, result in the world’s most scratch-resistant mirrors. They improve visual sharpness and contrast by deflecting reflected light away from the eye.”

Even if it’s correct, I still have no concept of what any of this implies. Both Maui Jim and Costa have polarized lenses, which protect your eyes from the sun’s damaging rays and allow you to fish all day without becoming tired of your eyes.

You can see everything. Even the fish you’re hoping to catch, thanks to the glare-cutting properties of both.

Colored lenses are also available for different climates and fishing situations.

Costa Del Mar Lenses

From flats fishing to deep-sea fishing in deep blue water, Costa Del Mar’s seven well-cut lenses fit your unique needs.

Both glass and polycarbonate are available for their lenses.

Maui Jim Lenses

While Costa Sunglasses feature a more comprehensive range of lens colors, Maui Jim’s four lens hues appear to cover most light circumstances.

Glass and polycarbonate lenses are also available from Maui Jim and their innovative MauiBrilliant lens technology.

For all of my time out at sea, I couldn’t distinguish between the two pairs of sunglasses. I couldn’t discern the difference in clarity or color for the price of an Ozark Trail polarized pair of sunglasses.

I am not an eye doctor to dispute the validity of the statements each has made about their lens technology and how they affect your eye health.

While wearing them, it’s possible that I noticed or didn’t see something.

As a result, when it comes to fishing optics, I will have to go with Costa Del Mar.

The primary reason is that they provide a wider variety of lens colors, and I believe they are better suited for anglers than Maui Jim.

How Do Their Frames Compare

Each Maui Jim and Costa Del Mar has their eyewear frame innovations, just like their lenses.

Both brands have options for those who need their sunglasses to be prescription-ready.

Their primary frame selection goes. Maui Jim and Costa Del Mar have a wide variety of options. However, Costa frames appear to be more geared toward fishers, while Maui Jim frames appear more geared toward everyday use.

The Costa Del Mars suited my large head better than the Maui Jims did in terms of how they fit.

Maui Jim Frame Technology

Both Maui Jim and Costa feature a large variety of sunglass frames, so choosing a pair that fits your head and matches your style should not be a problem.

Costa frames are more to my liking!

The Maui Jims are more comfortable, but I prefer the look of these frames.

As a result, I’m not convinced there is a clear winner here! If you can find a nice pair on your face, you look good.

Who Has The Best Warranty? (Costa vs Maui Jim)

Sunglasses costing several hundred dollars better be covered by an impressive guarantee if you want to keep them long.

There are exceptions to this rule, such as if you accidentally drop your sunglasses at a Bass Pro Shop and fracture a lens by forgetting they were still on your head while trying on a new cap. It was a real-life experience for me!

Even when substandard materials and production are covered, they should still be compensated.

Costa Del Mar Warranty

In contrast to Maui Jim, Costa provides a “limited lifetime warranty,” as opposed to the 2-year warranty offered by the letter.

The word “limited!” is the key to both of these.

This warranty only covers issues caused by the manufacturer and does not cover regular wear and tear. They get to see if the problem is shoddy construction or wear and tear.

Repair costs in Costa Del Mar are as follows:

  • Scratched, broken, or missing lens replacement: $89.00
  • Framing Repairs: $79.00 (ex. cracked, damaged, or loose frame) A problem with integrated nose pads or rubber
  • An $11.95 processing fee (includes return shipping)

Their glass lenses are included in the repair fee I provided. The Polycarbonate lenses they use are a little less expensive.

Getting your money back is a cinch. Fill up an online form with the model, issue, and payment card information for your sunglasses.

Upon submission, they charge processing fees, but they will not charge for repairs until they decide if one of their limited warranties covers them.

You don’t have to give your credit card information for repairs, but it does speed things up.

When I sent my Costa Cortezes out to get my lens adjusted, takes approximately three weeks before I received them.

Maui Jim Warranty

It’s hard to argue with Maui Jim’s two-year limited guarantee over Costa’s limited lifetime warranty, even if I haven’t had to use it yet. Nonetheless, I think it’s the better option.

Although the procedure and the processing cost are incredibly similar to Costa’s, that’s where the similarities end!

Listed here are Maui Jim’s repair costs:

  • $75.00 for a new lens
  • Replacement of the whole frame costs $50.00.
  • Free Nose Pads and Temples
  • Including return postage, the service fee is $12.00.

Maui Jim’s repair costs are less expensive, but they also give complimentary nose pads and temples, provided they’re in stock. Wow!

Even though I haven’t dealt with Maui Jim directly regarding repairs, I’ve done some research and found that the vast majority of individuals have had nothing but good things to say about their experiences with the company.

Since Maui Jim offers the most extraordinary warranty, I have no choice but to choose them!

Who Has The Best Price?

The following is the result of my investigation, which included looking at the pricing of ten different pairs of Costa sunglasses and Maui Jims on various retailers’ websites.

Costa Del Mars 580g glass-lens sunglasses typically cost $187 a pair. Compared to this, a couple of Maui Jim’s expenses, on average, are $209. There is always a chance that the merchant may be offering a discount or promotion at this time.

That’s a difference of about $20. That’s not enough to conclude that Costa is the best value for your money.

There is no clear winner in the rate war. These two high-end fishing sunglasses cost a lot of money. For my favorite pair of each brand’s shoes, I looked on Amazon.com.
